Introduction

Finding a new job can be an incredibly challenging and daunting task. The job market is often highly competitive, with many candidates vying for a limited number of positions. The process requires significant time and effort, from crafting the perfect resume and cover letter to navigating online applications and attending numerous interviews. Rejections can be disheartening, and the uncertainty of the future adds to the stress. Despite the obstacles, perseverance and strategic efforts can lead to success, turning the job search journey into a rewarding experience.

LinkedIn Profile

A complete profile helps you establish a professional online presence. It serves as your virtual resume and allows potential employers or business contacts to learn more about your background, skills, and experiences.

First Impressions: Your LinkedIn profile often forms the first impression that others have of you professionally. A complete and well-crafted profile demonstrates your commitment to your career and professionalism.

Searchability: LinkedIn operates on a search-based platform. A complete profile with relevant keywords makes it more likely for recruiters, employers, and others to discover you when searching for specific skills, experiences, or qualifications.

Example

Bulletpoints for position descriptions and well-defined skills in LinkedIn format allow search engines to find you and match job-required skills with your own.

Keep it concise, lengthy texts are off-putting to readers.

Open to work

This is one of the best features implemented in the last years.

Privacy: LinkedIn takes privacy seriously, especially for users who are currently employed and looking for new opportunities discreetly. You have the option to hide your job-seeking status from specific companies or individuals, such as your current employer or recruiters from certain organizations.

Visibility to Recruiters: Recruiters who use LinkedIn’s platform can search for candidates based on various criteria, including their “Open to Work” status. When they search for candidates, they can filter results to include only those who have indicated that they’re open to new opportunities. Only recruiters will see that you’re open to work if you choose the privat mode.

Job Alerts

Job alerts are notifications that help users stay informed about new job opportunities that match their interests and criteria. Here’s how they work.

Users can set up job alerts based on specific criteria such as job title, location, industry, etc. LinkedIn then sends notifications when new job postings meet these criteria.

Frequency Options: Users can choose how often they receive job alerts, such as daily or weekly, allowing them to stay updated at their preferred pace.

LinkedIn Subscription

There are plenty of benefits to having a subscription on LinkedIn, like for example, visibility increase, InMails, AI Assistant, etc.

I’ll only mention here the one that I think can help the most in securing a new job.

Once you have a subscription, you will have the possibility to see the “Meet the hiring team” view inside the job offer. This is very important because after applying, you can send a contact request with a message included. When they accept your request, they will read the message and know that you’re very interested in the job offer.

Sometimes job offers attract many candidates, but believe me, getting in contact personally is the best way to create the best connection and increase your chances.

Example

As you can see below, “Meet the hiring team” is a very important premium feature.

Do not send the message directly there because it will be an InMail message, and you have a limited number of those. Instead, search for people working at the company and contact the recruiter by sending a normal invite request with a message.

Message Example

Hi xxx,

I have already submitted my application for the XXX position. I would appreciate being considered in the recruitment process.

With prior experience, I’m well-equipped to contribute effectively to the company’s success.

Thanks,

me

End to End process

  1. Complete your profile as described above.
  2. Close a subscription on LinkedIn.
  3. Create daily job alerts.
  4. Check the alerts daily and seek to meet the hiring team.
  5. Research the company and find the relevant contact person.
  6. Send an invitation and a message accordingly.

By following this process, you will have plenty more opportunities to capture their attention.

If you prefer not to open a subscription, you can research the company and filter employees by talent acquisition or hiring tags. This method also works, but keep in mind that you might not identify who posted the job. Additionally, companies sometimes outsource the recruitment process, so the person who posted the job might not actually work for the company.

Get ready for interviews, but this is another topic :)
